Self Identity and Expression Counselling: Coming Home to Yourself
Who am I really?
It is a question many of us quietly carry, often beneath layers of expectation, responsibility, and survival.
At Speaking Self, I see identity not as something fixed but as something we grow into through awareness, courage, and self acceptance. Counselling can help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been silenced, hidden, or shaped by the voices of others.
Understanding Self Identity
Our sense of self forms over time through family, culture, relationships, and experiences. For some, these influences provide grounding and belonging. For others, they can create disconnection or confusion, especially when the self we show the world feels different from the one we truly are.
When life changes through migration, loss, relationships, or personal growth, it is natural to question who we are and what we stand for. Counselling offers a safe and reflective space to explore these questions without judgement or pressure.
The Importance of Self Expression
Expression is not just about speaking. It is about being seen, felt, and understood.
When we suppress what we feel or who we are, we begin to lose touch with our authenticity. Over time, this can lead to anxiety, emptiness, or a sense of living life on autopilot.
Through counselling, we work together to:
• Explore the influences that have shaped your identity
• Reconnect with your emotions and inner voice
• Develop confidence in expressing thoughts, needs, and boundaries
• Recognise patterns of self silencing and learn to speak from truth
• Cultivate compassion for all parts of yourself, even the ones that feel uncertain
This process is not about changing who you are but allowing your true self to come forward.
A Space for Self Discovery
In our sessions, I bring a person centred, Gestalt, and emotion focused approach. Together, we stay with your lived experience — what arises in the body, emotions, and relationships — to help you reconnect with your inner world.
You might begin to notice how your voice strengthens, how you feel more grounded, and how your relationships begin to reflect a deeper sense of authenticity.
Finding Yourself in the Present Moment
Self identity is not about defining who you are once and for all. It is about learning to meet yourself in each moment with openness and compassion.
When you reconnect with your values and emotions, you begin to express yourself more freely, not to please others but to live with honesty and alignment.
