Understanding Anxiety and Stress

Feeling anxious or stressed is something we all experience at times. But when these feelings begin to take over, they can leave us feeling tense, overwhelmed, and disconnected from ourselves.
Anxiety and stress are not signs of weakness; they are signs that your body and mind are trying to protect you.

Anxiety can show up in many ways — racing thoughts, tightness in the chest, difficulty sleeping, or a constant sense of worry about what might happen next. Stress can build quietly in the background until it feels impossible to slow down or switch off. Both are signals from the body that something needs care and attention.

In counselling, we work together to understand what your anxiety and stress are trying to tell you. Rather than fighting against them, we learn to listen with curiosity and compassion. You will begin to notice patterns, recognise triggers, and build skills to calm your mind and body. Over time, you can learn to respond instead of react and to find steadiness even when life feels uncertain.

At Speaking Self, I offer a gentle and collaborative space to help you reconnect with your inner calm and resilience. Using mindfulness, grounding, and evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Emotion-Focused methods, we explore ways for you to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

You do not have to face it alone. Together, we can find a way to help you breathe a little easier and feel more present in your everyday life.

Speaking Self Therapy provides warm, confidential, and non-judgmental counselling for individuals and couples.

My practice is based in Melbourne, where I meet with clients in person. At the same time, I work with individuals from around the world through secure telehealth sessions. Originally from Mauritius, I understand the richness and challenges of cross-cultural experiences, and I bring this awareness into the therapy space. Whether near or far, I aim to provide a safe, supportive environment for anyone seeking growth and change.

Everyone, regardless of who they love or how they identify, is warmly embraced here.
